Unfortunately one of the alien races has managed to locate the ship and manages to shoot it down, causing it to break up in the atmosphere of an unexplored planet called Mira. Flash-forward to now and the majority of the ship’s inhabitants have been placed in stasis. One successfully escapes into space with thousands of people on board. In the chaos, multiple space ships launch from earth to escape the carnage. Humanity is stuck in the crossfire and takes massive collateral damage. The opening cinematic tells the tale of two mysterious alien races showing up on earth’s doorstep and initiating a massive fight between one another. X is massive and epic, both in the sheer size of the game and its story. Well, after playing for 125 hours, I’m happy to report that it has, and in fact it’s become my favorite game of 2015. As it approached release I began to wonder if I had overhyped the game in my mind and whether it could live up to my expectations. That’s why I was so happy when Xenoblade Chronicles X was announced back in 2013, and why it remained my most anticipated game of 2015. This all changed with the release of Xenoblade Chronicles, a game that not only had an intriguing tale to tell, but did so with beautiful landscapes, a captivating soundtrack, and a fresh battle system. The genre had become a bit sparse on GameCube, and although the Wii rectified this shortcoming to some degree – with many of the RPGs being serviceable – not many were great or memorable.
The Super NES and PlayStation eras were the golden years for these games. It didn’t have the prettiest graphics or complex controls, but it was the beginning of my love affair with Japanese RPG video games. Dragon Warrior for the NES was a revelation because it was unlike anything I had ever played before. Thankfully, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD allows players to choose between motion controls and a more traditional control scheme, providing anti-motion control players with the opportunity to finally enjoy the title after almost a decade of waiting.I received my very first role-playing game (RPG) way back in 1989 from my grandma for Christmas. For anyone who just wanted to enjoy another great Zelda game, however, it made the title pretty inaccessible. RELATED: The Legend of Zelda: All Skyward Sword HD Dungeons, Rankedįor those who like flailing their arms around wildly like a malfunctioning helicopter or that robot from Lost in Space, this probably wasn't such a bad thing. Skyward Sword, though a great game in many ways, was so heavily defined by the capabilities of the Wii MotionPlus technology, that playing it without motion controls was simply impossible.

While the Mario series was largely spared from the motion-controlled massacre though, sadly, the same cannot be said of Zelda. Nintendo does love a good gimmick and wasted no time in forcing the Wii's motion controls down players' throats following the system's release.

To better outline some of these awesome offerings, the following list has been updated to include even more Nintendo Switch games that don't require Internet to play. Nintendo has done a great job working closely with developers to breathe life into the system and create a solid stable of digital and physical releases that will keep players entertained for days on end. The portability of the system, paired with its extensive collection of games thus far, makes it one of the best devices to carry on long trips to remote areas that may not have access to an Internet connection.
